TV: THE NEW RUSSIAN SHERLOCK HOLMES
While the English-speaking world is all aflutter over the forthcoming SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS and the second series of the BBC's brilliant SHERLOCK (likely airing in January on BBC 1), let's not forget that the Russian company Central Partnership is busily producing a new 16 episode (8 two-parters) Sherlock Holmes series of their own. The series is due for release in 2012-2013. It stars Igor Petrenko (Sherlock Holmes), Andrew Panin (Watson), Mikhail Boyarsky (Lestrade), Leonid Yarmolnik, Alexander Golubev, and Elisaveta Boyarskaya.

I heard from my son in Moscow that the new BBC Sherlock is the biggest programme on Russian TV at the moment. From the pictures here I hope that we'll get a version with English subtitles.
ReplyDeleteI'll second that. I really hope this is made available subtitled in English on DVD at some point in the near future! I love the original Russian Sherlock, and I hope that this one lives up to it. The Watson dresses similarly, but that Holmes looks a bit too Robert Downey Jr. to me. Stubble? I hope that's just for a disguise...
ReplyDeleteThis new adaptation has the unenviable task of being compared to the classic adaptation with Vasily Livanov and Vitaly Solomin as Holmes and Watson.
